Walter Wells, 88 of 1123 Hedgewood Drive died at 8 a.m. Thursday Dec 7, 2000 in St. Anthony Health Care.  He was born Oct 3, 1912 in Boone County and had been a Lafayette resident since 1973.  He was a graduate of Bowers HS in Montgomery County and Lafayette Business College.  He was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1973.  He also had worked at Alcoa Inc and Purdue University.  On Sept 11, 1955 he married Mary Frances Carlson in Lafayette and she died April 24, 1997.  Mr. Wells was an Army veteran, serving as a sergeant for the military police.  He was a member of the First Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star Hope Chapter 5 and American Legion Post 11.  He was a 50-year member and Past Master of Colfax Plumb Lodge 472, F&AM Valley of Scottish Rite and past president of Lafayette High 12 Club and Indiana Association of High 12 Clubs.  He was a charter member of American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 2943 and had served on the Boone County Council from 1961-1963. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. today at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Service 10 a.m. Saturday in Hippensteel Chape, the Rev. Greg Eberhard officiating.  Interment at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette. Surviving are two nieces, Catherine Atchison of Anerson and Sarah Hancock of Greenfield. Preceded by his parents, Harry C and Iva Coolman Wells and a brother, Robert Lee Wells. Memorials to Wolcott Foundation, High 12 Group. – kbz
